Density Measurement
Accurate in-process density measurement can help minimize rejected product and maximize product throughput.
However, measuring density for compressible materials like foam can be difficult. Traditional contact gauges cannot be used without compressing the sample surface, which creates inaccurate measurements. Delaying measurement until after the foam is set can create substantial process feedback delays.
Luna's T-Gauge Measurement System
The T-Gauge Measurement System uses terahertz technology to provide a safe, non-contact solution for measuring the thickness of compressible materials without calibration, and to measure density with a single sensor. The terahertz system can even measure the density of the foam layer when other materials (e.g., paperboard or plastic liner sheet) surround it. The sensor is also insensitive to foam color because of the pulse's long wavelength.
